Jail 'n Bail

Nationally, the Minnesota Alpha Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon has been recognized for our largest annual philanthropic event, Jail 'n Bail, held each April. Pairing with the University of Minnesota Police Department and Special Olympics Minnesota, Sigma Alpha Epsilon's Jail 'n Bail event has become the largest philanthropic event held by a University of Minnesota student organization. Established in 1995, we raise well over $30,000 annually for Special Olympics Minnesota.

The event is held each April in a tent outside Northrop Auditorium. With the help of officers off duty and special 0lympic athletes, members go around campus and coordinate mock arrests for participants. Prisoners are taken to "jail" at the tent outside Northrop and given a "bail" to raise. Once this "bail" is raised for Special Olympics Minnesota, participants are given a free t-shirt and food, and are invited to hang out in the tent throughout the day.
